Yeah, i don't like the marshmallow/yams, and the standard green bean casserole is also no bueno. I'm simple; my faves are meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes and bread. Starch is a real winner at Thanksgiving. Next stop, my thighs!

Favorite: my family makes a white corn dish with jalapeños and cream cheese. Least favorite: generic yams/marshmallows.

I’ve also made this with vegan butter and without cream cheese for lactose intolerant friends:

Hot Corn

- 2 lb. bag of white corn

- 1 tablespoon chopped jalapeno (I use the canned ones you find in the Mexican aisle at grocery stores and drain them first, I also add more if people can hang)

- 8 oz cream cheese

- 1/2 to 1 stick of butter (1 stick is kind of too watery. I like Kerrygold salted butter)

- salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Melt butter with cream cheese. Mix in all other ingredients. Bake for 30 minutes at 350.

My favorite is probably stuffing or a turkey leg. Also I love my cranberry Jell-O salad which only myself and my husband like. Least favorite is the sweet potato casserole with the marshmallows, or Waldorf Salad.

I used to think I like Waldorf salad, but it turns out I just like my grandmother's Waldorf salad that it non-mayo based and is still fucking delicious despite being out of the era of aspic-based foods being considered high end. Her uses condensed milk to make a sweet creamy dressing with the sliced apples and toasted walnuts.

Since Kristen is sharing recipes, I'd share this one (an old leftover from Google Reader) that i've been making ever since I saw the original post, and received rave reviews for it. The only thing I would say on it is that I find that if you take it out of the oven 5-10 minutes early, it will make a better pie, since the pecan filling has a chance to harden and burn if you leave it in too long. Taking it out early ensures a more fudgey consistency. Also, I'd go with shortbread pie crust over graham cracker.

Also, this is the only turkey recipe that I use on Thanksgiving (although I haven't gone the whole nine yards on the gravy and the crushed walnuts in the boats), because the one thing I hate more than anything on Thanksgiving is dry turkey and this ensures that the turkey stays moist all over!

I also use the Gordon Ramsey butter under the skin method! I just use herb butter, which he used for a roast chicken in a video once, and I've never gone back. One pro-tip though is to cook the turkey breast side down. Then turn it over and let it brown in a hot oven for like 20-30 minutes. I've never had a dry turkey doing it this way.

i would do the breast side down, but what am i going to cover with bacon, then? the butt?

I don't do the bacon but you can put it on the back I guess. Does it really make that much of a difference flavor wise?

Brownie and pecan sounds great! I’ll have to try that sometime. Here’s a pumpkin and pecan layered pie I’ve made that I thought was pretty good. https://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Thanksgiving-Twofer-Pie/

Stuffing or turkey are favorites, and whoever makes the green bean casserole needs to channel their energy into something people will actually eat.

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is all of them, and my least favorite is white meat. Even when I ate meat, I respected that burd.

I agree about sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and green beans being low points of thanksgiving. I also don’t like ham on any day. Stuffing and pie are my favorite!
